Project Manager – Batwa Agricultural Program

Canadian Ape Alliance (CAA) is currently seeking a Toronto-based project manager for the Batwa Agricultural Program, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a part-time volunteer capacity.

As a Canadian Ape Alliance volunteer, you can volunteer to work on, and to lead activities that advance the conservation of great apes and human development in DRC. Volunteering with CAA is an excellent way to expand your network, enhance your skills and make a difference. The role of the Project Manager is to remotely manage the Batwa Agricultural Program according to deadlines and within budget. This includes helping acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants. The Project Manager will also help define the project’s objectives end be involved in overall Canadian Ape Alliance planning of new initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Remotely direct and oversee land development from beginning to end of each land lease cycle.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders in DRC and Canada on an ongoing basis.
  • Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Experience of living and/or working in developing countries would be useful but not essential.

Other

  • Agricultural and cultural knowledge of the region (DRC) is an asset.
  • PMP or Project Management working background preferred.
  • Some NGO/Development experience preferred.
  • Experience of living and/or working in developing countries would be useful but not essential.
  • Knowledge of French is an asset.
